Wichita Skatepark
Wichita, Kansas, US
Terrain & Features
A 12,045-square-foot California Skateparks concrete facility sheltered beneath the Kellogg highway overpass in downtown Wichita, dividing its footprint into a street plaza and a three-bowl shotcrete complex.
Tucked directly beneath the US-54/400 (Kellogg Avenue) highway overpass just south of downtown Wichita’s Commerce Street Arts District, Wichita Skatepark offers 12,045 square feet of all-concrete terrain designed by Wally Hollyday and built by California Skateparks. Because the overhead freeway deck shields the slab from direct Kansas sun and light rain—and overhead lighting keeps the underpass open daily from 6:00am until midnight—it is a practical, weather-resilient spot for older skaters fitting sessions before work or late in the evening.
The quarter-acre footprint is split into two distinct zones so street and bowl traffic stay out of each other’s way. Returning skaters can warm up across the “Urban Landscape” plaza—which spreads out four street funboxes, four concrete ramps, low ledges, manual pads, stairs, and handrails—or work on carving inside the 5.5-foot shallow bowl before approaching the much steeper 8.5-foot and 9.5-foot shotcrete bowls. Note that this is an unsupervised municipal park where Emporia Street runs one-way northbound and St. Francis Street runs one-way southbound; use the dedicated skatepark lot off Emporia Street. If you are skating through eastern Kansas as well, check out Rolling Magic Skate Park in Lenexa.
