A 6,000-square-foot Grindline poured-concrete municipal skatepark on Sitka's waterfront protected by a permanent open-sided roof cover and overhead LED lighting, keeping its bowl and street course rideable through Southeast Alaska rain and dark winter evenings.

Set along the historic PBY seaplane turnaround loop near the corner of Halibut Point Road and Katlian Street, Turnaround Skate Park (widely known locally as Sitka Skate Park) is a roughly 6,000-square-foot poured-concrete facility designed by Grindline Skateparks and managed by City and Borough of Sitka Parks and Recreation. For older skaters navigating Baranof Island’s maritime rainforest climate and short winter daylight, the park’s two biggest assets are overhead: a permanent open-sided roof structure added over the slab in 2011 to block heavy coastal precipitation, and municipal overhead LED floodlighting installed to extend usable sessions into dark afternoons and evenings.

The layout separates its transition bowl from a perimeter street section so returning riders can warm up on flatground, bank ramps, low flat and out ledges, a euro gap, and flat rails before dropping into the faster bowl corners. Keep a few local caveats in mind: while the roof keeps rain off the primary riding surface, windblown coastal mist and cold-weather condensation can still leave the outer edges damp and slick, and the compact covered footprint is shared on a first-come, first-served basis with local youth and scooter riders—making weekday mornings and lit evening windows the calmest times to roll. If you are travelling elsewhere in Southeast Alaska, you can also ride under the roof canopy at Pipeline Skate Park in Juneau.
