Smith Playground Skatepark & Pump Track
Boston, Massachusetts, US
Terrain & Features
An outdoor concrete street skatepark and Velosolutions asphalt pump track in Boston's Allston neighborhood, offering a low-impact continuous pumping loop alongside approachable street obstacles just down the street from Orchard Skateshop.
Located at 235 Western Avenue in Allston, the renovated 15-acre Smith Playground gives Boston riders two side-by-side training grounds in one municipal park: the city’s first Velosolutions asphalt pump track and an adjacent poured-concrete street skatepark. For older skaters rebuilding balance and leg stamina after time off, the sculpted asphalt pump track provides a continuous, low-impact circuit of smooth rollers and banked berms where you can generate speed and practice carving without taking flatground impact or dropping into steep transition.
Right beside the pump track, the concrete skate plaza offers an approachable progression layout of mellow banks, quarter-pipes, manual pads, low grind ledges, and a flat rail with open flatground to warm up on. Keep two practical caveats in mind: as Boston’s only public pump track, the asphalt circuit draws heavy afternoon traffic from neighborhood kids on scooters and bikes on warm weekends—early weekday mornings are by far the calmest window—and while the park’s basketball courts have athletic lighting, the skate corridor and pump track are unlit and limited to dawn-to-dusk daylight hours. The park sits less than a mile down Western Avenue from Orchard Skateshop in Allston, and you can pair an evening or rainy-day session with the covered, floodlit Lynch Family Skatepark across the Charles River in Cambridge.
