Pipeline Skate Park (Jackie Renninger Park)
Juneau, Alaska, US
Terrain & Features
A covered, open-sided municipal skatepark in Juneau's Jackie Renninger Park sheltered beneath a full roof canopy that keeps its wood ramps and concrete slab rideable through Southeast Alaska's year-round coastal rain.
Tucked inside Jackie Renninger Park along Mendenhall Loop Road in Juneau’s Mendenhall Valley, the Pipeline Skate Park is a covered, open-sided municipal skate facility managed by City and Borough of Juneau (CBJ) Parks and Recreation in partnership with the local Skate Board advisory group. Because Juneau averages more than 200 days of precipitation a year, the park’s full overhead roof canopy is its defining draw for older skaters—keeping the wood ramps, mini-ramp transitions, banks, rails, and underlying concrete foundation dry enough to fit reliable sessions around work and Southeast Alaska weather.
Returning riders can warm up on the flat concrete approaches, low ledges, mellow banks, and smaller quarter-pipe transitions under the canopy before working up to the steeper ramp walls. Keep several CBJ operational rules (CBJ 67.01) and seasonal caveats in mind: the facility is unsupervised and self-policed, and its perimeter gates are locked outside CBJ’s published 10:00am-to-10:00pm daily operating hours (check CBJ Parks & Recreation before driving out in case of seasonal gate adjustments). Hard-shell knee pads, elbow pads, and a helmet are strongly recommended by city code (even for spectators standing inside the active riding area), amplified music requires a special permit, and riding is prohibited whenever blowing snow, ice, or cold-weather condensation makes the covered ramps slick. Elsewhere in Alaska, you can compare it with the covered, LED-lit Turnaround Skate Park in Sitka or the outdoor concrete at Taku Lake Skatepark in Anchorage.
