Old Mountain Field Skate Park
Wakefield, Rhode Island, US
Terrain & Features
A floodlit municipal skatepark in South Kingstown's Old Mountain Field open until 10pm from May through October, pairing a repurposed former inline rink full of slappy curbs and flatground with a 4-foot concrete halfpipe and a 6-foot kidney bowl.
Set inside 60-acre Old Mountain Field in Wakefield—South Kingstown’s oldest town park, complete with restrooms, parking off Old Mountain Road, and wooded reservoir walking trails—Old Mountain Field Skate Park (“OMF”) is a multi-phase collaboration between South Kingstown Parks and Recreation, the town Skate Park Committee, and Rhode Island builder Jus Martel of Pivotal Concrete. For older skaters in southern Rhode Island, the park offers two major practical advantages: overhead floodlighting that stays on until 10:00pm from May through October (and until 8:00pm from November through April), and a multi-tier footprint that physically separates low-impact flatground from deeper transition terrain.
Returning riders can warm up on the lower slab—a repurposed former inline skating rink famous locally as a slappy-curb haven, stocked with progressive angled and rounded slappy curbs, a low manual pad, flat bars, rainbow rails, a granite ledge, and low boxes—before rolling up the connecting exterior transition ramp to skate the 4-foot-high, 20-foot-wide Trevor Stoutenburgh memorial concrete halfpipe or the 6-foot-deep, 32-by-24-foot kidney-shaped concrete bowl. Because several flat bars and wooden kickers on the lower rink are movable, check obstacle placement before committing to a line, and note that the park is closed during rain or snow and shares its main parking lot with busy spring and summer baseball games. For larger Spohn Ranch concrete courses nearby, cross the bridges to Newport Skatepark on Aquidneck Island or head north to Neutaconkanut Skatepark in Providence.
