Terrain & Features
Operating since 1976 as the East Coast's oldest municipal skatepark, this 17,000-square-foot staffed concrete facility in Ocean City features a dedicated beginner area, an 11,000-square-foot street course, a tile-coped pool bowl, and private lessons.
Opened in June 1976 and operated by the Town of Ocean City Recreation and Parks Department, Ocean Bowl Skate Park is the oldest continuously operating municipal skatepark on the East Coast. Rebuilt into a modern 17,000-square-foot concrete complex at 3rd Street and St. Louis Avenue, the staffed park is particularly welcoming for older skaters returning to a board: you can book one-on-one private lessons for any age ($20 for residents, $25 for non-residents per 30-minute session with 1–2 days’ notice, including free safety gear), join small-group beginner and intermediate classes in spring and fall, or take advantage of the discounted $8 morning session window from 9:00am to noon.
The layout explicitly separates ability levels so you never have to warm up in advanced traffic. Start in the dedicated beginner area—built with a flat entrance, mellow banks, and small transitions—or work across the mini-ramp and the 11,000-square-foot open concrete street course of ledges, boxes, rails, and smooth connecting transitions before eyeing the large vert ramp or the tile-coped pool bowl with its shallow and deep ends. All riders must complete a municipal waiver and wear required safety gear, with helmets ($2), individual pads ($2), and full elbow/knee/wrist pad sets ($5) available to rent at the gate. Because the park closes at dark with no night sessions and restricts morning public entry until 12:30pm during select summer skate camp weeks, check the town schedule or call ahead before driving out.
