Hot Spot Skate Park
Spartanburg, South Carolina, US
Terrain & Features
South Carolina's first public concrete skatepark, operated by the City of Spartanburg with daily 9am–9pm lit hours, a bike-free policy, and separate street, flow-course, and mellow bowl zones alongside an 8-foot vert ramp.
Opened in 2009 through a partnership between the City of Spartanburg, R.L. Jordan Oil Co., and the Partnership for Active Youth, Hot Spot Skate Park at 339 Union Street was South Carolina’s first public concrete skatepark and remains the flagship municipal facility in the Upstate region. Operated daily from 9:00am to 9:00pm with overhead lighting for evening sessions, the park is also distinctly calmer to navigate than many multi-use municipal parks because City of Spartanburg rules strictly prohibit bicycles inside the fence, limiting traffic to skateboards, inline skates, and scooters.
Designed by Spohn Ranch, the concrete layout separates a street course of steps, low ledges, manual pads, and flat rails from a central flow course—featuring a pyramid, concrete boxes, a camel hump, a spine, and a euro gap—plus a dedicated concrete bowl with forgiving coping and an 8-foot vertical half-pipe with escalators. Older skaters warming up their legs can start on the outer flatground and low street boxes or carve the shallower bowl walls during quiet weekday mornings right after 9:00am before after-school crowds arrive. Note that helmets are required by park rules and the facility closes during wet weather or municipal holidays.
