The Chris Rice Skateboard Park
Portsmouth, New Hampshire, US
Terrain & Features
A free Pillar Design Studios concrete skatepark in Portsmouth lit until 10pm from March through December, featuring progressive safety light dimming, a scooter-free riding surface, and an adjacent volunteer-built pump track.
Located off Greenland Road (Route 33) at the trailhead for the New Hampshire Seacoast Greenway, The Chris Rice Skateboard Park is a modern municipal concrete facility designed by Pillar Design Studios and named in memory of local skate advocate Chris Rice. From March through December, overhead floodlights keep the park open until 10:00pm with a thoughtful safety feature built for evening riders: the lights automatically dim to roughly 75% brightness at 9:30pm and 50% brightness at 9:45pm so no one is ever caught in the dark mid-run when the power cuts at closing time.
For older skaters getting their legs back, the park offers smooth concrete banks, mellow transitions, ledges, and bowl lines, plus an adjacent volunteer-built pump track at the neighboring Portsmouth Bike Park. Even better for predictable traffic flow, City of Portsmouth rules strictly prohibit scooters, e-bikes, one-wheels, and motorized vehicles on the skating surface. Keep in mind that floodlights do not run in January and February (when hours revert to dawn until dusk), on-site restrooms are year-round portable toilets, and the drinking fountain operates seasonally. You can easily pair a Seacoast trip here with a session at Dover Skatepark just 15 minutes north.
